Updated: Jul 18, 2020

A public hearing was held on Wednesday May 1, 2019 in Cornish where the selectman explained the new traffic pattern which may come to High Rd. and the side street between Thompson Park & Cornish Trading Company. side street between Thompson Park & Cornish TradingThis change is part of an effort to manage the traffic and parking in the village area, as well as surrounding Thompson Park.

Possible change in traffic direction

Currently there is two-way traffic on the small stretch of High Rd. from the Inn at Cornish, to the corner of Fiddle Ln., next to the Odd Fellows Hall and Cornish Trading Company.

The changes would turn that same small stretch into a one-way going up High Rd. a driver would then either take a right onto the side street between Thompson Park & Cornish Trading Company, which is the opposite direction of the current one-way, or continue on High Rd. Drivers coming down High Rd. would see a new stop sign, and need to turn left onto the side street between Thompson Park & Cornish Trading Co. to access Rt. 25.

There was much discussion as to the reasoning behind these changes. They included safety, allowing emergency vehicles to pass, preserving the road conditions, and parking - which was a hot topic as it is in many busy towns.

The Town of Cornish will post an announcement if/when this plan is put into place.

This map is not an actual depiction of the possible changes. But gives one a general idea.
