Denmark Arts Center presents ART OPENING: REFLECTIONS - 25 years in Watercolor – free and open to the public. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. the event includes Hors d’Oeuvres and drinks. There will also be additional events to follow.

Mary Bastoni is a local artist who works in oils, acrylics, watercolor, alcohol inks, and pastels. Although her background is in music with a masters in classical vocal performance, she has spent the last few years developing her skills as an artist. Mary is the first of two artists who are part of Denmark Arts Center’s Artist-in-Residence program. Mary is thrilled to present her art which includes representation of 25 years of shows directed for the summer musical theater camp program at DAC which she founded and continues to this day.

Her interests include Plein air study, animals and nature, as well as capturing the mood of a moment. Mary has attended workshops with Michael Chesley Johnson and Lian Quan Zen. Her art is diverse, much like her interests. Other endeavors include directing children musical theater productions and workshops, co-director of the adult community chorus Da Capo, and works at the University of Southern Maine as a voice teacher and Professor for the School of Music.

On July 17, join Mary in a demonstration of how watercolor can move on a wet on wet surface. The wet on wet technique is allowing the colors to mingle and let the paintings have a looser feel. Different subjects will be interpreted in this demonstration to help inspire and build confidence. The demonstration is from 6:30-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public, as part of the Artist in Residence program.

Sunday July, 28th from 1-5:00 p.m Watercolor Workshop with Mary Bastoni (fee-based).

Take the plunge into watercolors! Materials will be provided by the Denmark art center and this hands-on program will help you develop painting skills with confidence. Come ready to learn and, of course, have fun! Create and color your world!
