Casella's Bid Hits the Can, Mellen and Son Picks it Up

After a sealed bid process, the Town of Parsonsfield awarded the solid waste disposal contract to Casella Waste Systems in June 2025, ending a 15-year partnership with the local company Mellen and Son Disposal. However, Casella later discovered an error in their bid and withdrew it, resulting in Mellen and Son receiving the contract.

The Town of Parsonsfield has released the following statement regarding the matter:

IMPORTANT TRASH AND RECYCLING NOTICE

We have awarded the solid waste disposal contract to Mellen and Son, who will continue to be our contractor for the next three years. Trash will be picked up every Friday, and Recycling will be picked up on the first and third Fridays, just like it has been.

Casella based their bid on incorrect information and consequently withdrew it as it was not accurate.

Please have trash and recycling curbside by 6AM. The pickup route may change from week to week, and your pickup time may vary because of this.
