Brian Pellerin Announces Independent Candidacy for York County Sheriff

York County, Maine — Today, I am announcing my candidacy for York County Sheriff in the

November 2026 election. I am running as a principled Independent candidate, committed to

professional, nonpartisan leadership in public safety.

I believe the Office of Sheriff must remain above partisan politics! Public safety leadership

requires accountability, transparency, and a clear focus on putting people over politics.

I have more than 30 years of law enforcement experience at the local, county, state, and federal

levels. I currently serve as Chief Deputy of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a nationally

accredited agency serving more than 300,000 residents. In this role, I oversee law enforcement,

corrections, and civil operations, manage complex budgets, and work closely with

municipalities, schools, and community partners.

Previously, I spent more than two decades as a federal special agent with the U.S. Secret Service

and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General, conducting

complex investigations and protective operations both domestically and internationally.

My local law enforcement career began in York County with the Buxton and Saco Police

Departments, where I served as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, and police chief. I also

served 12 years on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Board of Trustees, including seven

years as Chair, helping oversee training standards and accountability for more than 5,000

certified law enforcement and corrections officers statewide.

I am a lifelong York County resident; I grew up in Saco and have lived in Dayton for more than

20 years. I remain actively involved in my community as a volunteer, coach, and civic leader.

The Sheriff’s Office exists for no other reason than to serve and protect the people of York

County. In the coming weeks and months ahead, I look forward to earning the trust of voters and

building a Sheriff’s Office that sets the standards for professionalism, accountability, and

service.
