11/6-11/9 and 11/11-11/15/2019 TCW Seeks Volunteers for WindowDressers Workshops and Upcoming Events

Updated: Jul 18, 2020

Tear Cap Workshops is teaming up with Sacopee Energy Alliance and the WindowDressers to build insulating window insert frames in the Community Woodworking Shop!

Volunteers will help build insulating window inserts to winterize homes, saving energy and reducing heating costs. Workshops are held in Hiram and Parsonsfield, volunteer for one or both.

Frames will be assembled in Hiram Tear Cap Workshops (TCW) woodworking shop Wednesday - Saturday, November 6 - 9, 2019, and then wrapping and finishing the inserts at the Gym at Parsonsfield Town Office, 634 North Rd, Parsonsfield Monday - Friday, November 11 - 15, 2019.

Tear Cap Workshops also seeks a volunteer to prepare lunch on Friday, November 8, 2019, for 8-12 people (exact number is not known at this time). Kathy Banks is serving lunch on Wednesday November 6, and Friends of Soldiers Memorial Library in Hiram is catering on Thursday, November 7. A simple lunch of sandwiches is fine.

WindowDressers is a non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to improve the warmth and comfort of homes, lower heating costs, and reduce CO2 emissions by producing low cost insulating window inserts that function as interior-mounted storm windows. WindowDressers staff supplies, trains, and supports teams of community volunteers as they build affordable, insulating window inserts at local workshops. Please visit windowdressers.org to find out more about their efforts to winterize homes in Maine.

To sign up to volunteer, please see https://windowdressers.org/community-workshops/ and look for the Sacopee Valley build if you'd like to lend a hand at TCW or in Parsonsfield.

In other Tear Cap news:

A big thank you to all those who participated in this year's stonewall building workshop! A special thank you to the tremendous instructors, Michael Weitzner and Karl Gifford. Another section of wall is complete, and can't wait for the next workshop with the Stone Trust!

We had some of the nicest, crisp fall weather and about 60 people turn out for TCW's Open House earlier this October. They appreciate all of the presenters, demonstrators, craftspeople, and supporters who stopped by. What a wonderful, creative and supportive community we have!

There is now another way to support TCW: they now have tee-shirts for sale! A portion of the proceeds go to TCW to support their mission. These shirts make great gifts! You can pick from five different shirt colors too.  Order yours here!

Your donations make hands-on happenings in Hiram possible... we couldn't do it without you!
